"I never saw a wild thing feel sorry for it self. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough. Without ever having felt sorry for itself."
-D.H. Lawrence
To me, my interpretation of the quote is self-pity where as one who does feel sorry for itself shall be greedy in what one desires.
Where as it's all about how big or small one's ego is. At times a person may not admit or accept the fact of giving in or knowing they're wrong due to their pride. Stubbornness can also lead one to not feel or let one change their perspective of how they view the world.
